Government and Leadership
Poland Township government was established in 1810 to provide order and structure to the entire town. The Poland Township government is divided into subgroups consisting of the Poland Township Police Department, township zoning, the recycling program, the Poland Township Cemetery Office, and the Poland Township Road Department. Poland's government structure is composed of three trustees and one township clerk. Each of these officials serve a four year term. Elections are staggered every two years so that either one trustee and one clerk or two trustees will be voted on. The Poland Township Board of Trustees is responsible for:
- Township Funds
- Township Policy
- Hiring process of Township Employees

Sources of revenue
Poland Township has two main sources of revenue which come from taxes and landfill tipping fees. Poland Township receives anywhere from $9,000-$20,000 every month through landfill tipping fees by having the Carbon Limestone Landfill within its limits. Poland also passes a levy for taxes which support the local roads, the police department, and also general funding. Other sources of revenue for Poland include but are not limited to:
- Gas tax
- Police services such as speeding tickets, etc.
- Tax paid into the state of Ohio which supports a local government fund

Community planning
With the finishing of Poland Township Park in the last couple of years, new plans have been made to continue future building and improvement in the years to come. A community center for the citizens of Poland Township is in the works. Within the next two years, Poland will push to start a community center that will be added onto the property surrounding the new park. Money for this project will be raised through community awareness and donation. It is expected to cost around $600,000 to complete this plan although township officials are optimistic. The architecture is already planned and is projected to be finalized and started by the year 2016.

The Mahoning County District Board of Health offers its services throughout the entire county. It was established to protect and promote the health of the citizens in Mahoning County and to also keep the environment safe for all of its inhabitants. This Board of Health is organized with a President, Vice-President, Health Commissioner, and by a number of members. The President and Vice-President are elected each year in March as well as the Health Commissioner who also serves as the Secretary to the Board of Health. Although the higher up officials have the most authority, the members vote on issues as a group to form one voice.

strengths
One major strength of the government of Poland,OH is the Mahoning County District Board of Health. This Board of Health offers a number of services to the community. The Mahoning County District Board of Health is very thorough with its works and offers a great deal of information for the residents of Mahoning County to be knowledgeable about public health and health opportunities. One source of information offered is the Mahoning County Board of Health website. This website offers guidance as well as an opportunity to opt into receiving health alert emails. One other strength of Poland is that the township officials reside in Poland and are therefore easy to reach and also understand the strengths and weaknesses of the community first hand.
weaknesses
One weakness of Poland is that there is a levy to be passed on three of the main sources of revenue for the township. A levy must be passed to support the payment toward the township's road department, police department, and general funding. If a levy is not successful in passing, township funding will decrease dramatically and money will have to be allocated from other township funds.
